Maria’s Garden

From the church we continued towards the end of the town until we happened upon elderly Maria and her giardino.

Gino and Maria

Maria, one of the town residents who is featured on a Rick Steves show about Civita, was sitting at the entrance to her garden, welcoming us with a warm, gap-toothed smile.

Gladly donating a Euro or two, we entered her eclectic plant-filled garden dotted with tiny grottos carved into stone walls and displays of antique tools and garden items.

Interesting as these articles were, the main attraction of her garden was the panoramic view across the canyon.
